A few days ago at work, I was riding the elevator up and was joined by two elderly men and a stylish female in her early twenties. Out of the five of us, four were glued to our respective smart phones, fingers scrolling or tapping away rapidly. The one man not on his phone was one of the elderly men and he found it necessary to comment : "Wow, even while riding the elevator people are on their phones."
Thank-fully the other elderly gentleman, without looking up from his phone and without his fingers breaking speed as he furiously typed away, responded: "Some of us have got to work around here." I laughed and giggled and high-fived and jumped and danced in my head. I have become sensitive to comments targeted at the millennial generation by the boomer generation. Now, don't get me wrong, I do believe in limiting one's screen time. However, if I can read two news headlines, or send a quick "I love you" text to my mother or reply to an email then that is exactly what I am going to do. Why waste time? Needless to say, it was refreshing to have that man schooled by someone his age! How about you? Do you ever feel the need to be accomplishing something while in an elevator or a bus? Or have you ever been schooled by a stranger for being glued to your phone screen?
